Rise & Shine for a brief second today

If you were up in time you saw it but within a few camera shots it was gone. It was amazing!
The only thing missing was a cup of tea in hand-it wasn't ready when I went out with the camera.

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

We were out driving the other day and when this goes by us on the road you do take notice. For those interested the pickup is a F250 and yes its sagging with the load. It's the pumpkin man from RI. Some people drive around with their dog- he drives around with his pumpkin. Good Grief!

Before the Rain

The other morning I got up early hoping for a nice sunrise. The sun has moved back down the hill again so I get to see it well. The rain was coming- actually started while I was snapping these. You prob think the sun never showed up the other day and since but it did-here is the proof.

The Garden is just about done

We would have more but the chicken have decided our cukes taste wonderful and anything they can reach thru the fence with their beak and peck -they do. Should still get some cherry tomatoes if the frost holds out for a bit. Have big plans for next year.

My Zippo- he is my child that gets into everything. He can't be happy just munching on grass-he has to jump the tape to go visit with Chief and chase him around. Well they both could use a little exercise so I let them be- this is a pic a long time coming- Lets hope they get along this nicely forever!

GOODBYE!!! Irene! Dont'come back

Lets just say the past two weeks has been not fun! From the moment they said She's coming-we have been preparing. Figuring with any winds we would loose the green house and the large old barn- which means everything with or without legs must be moved. Now just tack that on with all the other stuff that needs to be done here daily and you have Crazy Kim. Now when Crazy Kim is done she realizes there is plenty of food for the animals and none for people-so as Irene comes to town the shopping for food begins. Luckly we get our milk from the barn up the street so that was 11 1/2 gallons to hold us thru. Sat night was fine but Sunday 6:31 to be exact-bam-no power-until Tuesday night! Our other house just got back on yesterday-8 days!!! So things we/I have learned-men could care less how many days its been since they have showered last. men don't care if the roof blows off-men just want to sleep. If you have a bad tooth go to the dentist BEFORE the hurrican hits- not the ER the night of...To sum it up-I hope its another 25 yrs before something like this happens again, trees will fall where THEY want to and I LOVE MY Generator! All animals are safe but not all are moved back-still tired from the pre-op,lol. It is quite clear to me that our govt has learned nothing from Katrina. and Thank God other power companies came to CT's rescue AGAIN.

The Return of Bruce Wayne-at 3am

I must say I was a lil sad when he didn't appear in April as I was told he would. I figured he had found a way out. We have only had 1-3 bats around outside at night-most of the time I just see the one. my lil buddy. At 3am I hear the mice running around again but it sounds like they are trying to get into the gouldians cage. So the light comes on. There is Bruce flying around-taking a break on the cage. Casey could care less-even if he's flying within her grasp. She goes back to sleep. He takes his lil spot in the corner where I thought he would stay-nope-he decides he needs a new spot. between the floor boards above. I went back to bed with my lil super hero watching from above.

WoW Look what I found tonight!!

Ok So we are at the farmers market along with so many other friends & they are having a small car show. There on the end- I recognize a 67 Stang ragtop PINK- I said I have to go over and see if thats a Pink Lady. For those who dont know-Ford only made so many like a couple 100, 9 were ragtops- it was called the Playboy Pink Lady for Huey n his favorite girls-I heard that Cher had one as well when she was with Sony. Well in 1980 yes this story goes back- a family moved into the neighborhood-with them a guy named Dave dating their daughter Deb.Jump forward everyone becomes like family. Dave owns a Mustang, 67 Ragtop-Midnight Metallic Blue. This becomes the coolest car to hang out in over the next many years. Many trip to RI Mall, Green Falls, anywhere & everywhere. It was even stolen once -found -returned damaged. Well the car got old along with Dave and the rest of us-and it sat In Daves back yard until 1993 under a tarp. Dave sold it to a co-worker named Mike. Oh yea I forgot the best part of the story- if you remember anything about Dave you remember the famous Stang story. Dave needs a car for college-buys this Stang from an old lady (she was in her early 30's) Dave drives car- everyone picks on Dave cuz the color sucks so Dave saves his $$ and has it painted. Ok now you see where this is going....Someone steals the letters off the back and when Dave has them replaced the guy puts them on and says -Hey was this car ever Pink- Daves says Yea and I put up with a lot of crap for it until I painted it-The guy says- you idiot- It was a Pink Lady- well that means nothing to a 20 year old guy. So I go over to this nice car and say to the nice woman- is this a Pink Lady- she says yes it is- I said WOW- I have a story to tell you-I get about 2 sentences in and she says pointing-DAVE"S CAR!!! Now I could cry- they fixed it up all original right down to every last detail. I had to get in it- I can remember even taking her for a spin a few times myself in the days.
I just looked around inside and said hello old friend- its been many long years and your still running fine & lookin great. Who would have thought I would ever run into this old car ever again just a few miles away from my house! She's a beauty-even if you dont love old cars. By the way- out of the 9 ragtops-only 1 ever made it to the East Coast-THIS ONE! and yes that pony on the front still lights up!

Our visitor for the day

This morning at 7am Ryan stopped by with a load of hay and said someone had stopped him and said there was a cat in the hay! So I went and got a crate-but really a cat made a 50 minute trip on the back of a truck with hay? He took off some bales and could hear her meow. So off came some more and there she was-lil miss barn cat. I tried to claim her but he said she had a home-his. As I held misss kitty I explained to her that she just used up a couple of lives and she needed to be more careful! So off in the crate she went and was very well behaved considering her ride-she went home with Ryan-this time in the front seat.

Morning Time

This am brings a beautiful sunrise. The clouds, the fog, the birds... As I stood on the steps I wondered how many people have climbed them since the house was built in 1719. I love to sit on them-they are so big! Matter a fact- I ate my dinner on them last night and just watched the field as the fog rolled in.

Yummy berries!

Not enough to make jam but enough to make milkshakes tonight! Our birds loved them too. More to pick tomm!

Happy 4th from the Farm

Turkey chicks 9&10 arrived today.11 is on its way. They are quite mobile within a few hours-unlike baby chicks.
Happy Birthday to Cruise & Emma-who were born on the 4th some yrs ago-they are on each side of their mom- Suede-brown goat with her head thru the rail.
No grilling for us-well maybe-may just take Franny up on her idea to convert the gas grill into a charcoal one. Something is leaking-flames should not shoot out from all over when you light the grill,LOL.
Some finishing touches on the new buck pen today. Berry picking the wild blackberries. Laundry hould be dry on the line in no time 87F.

Baby turkeys have arrived

The chickens are doing a real good job sitting on the turkey eggs. 3 have hatched and are still with momma chicken-she doesn't know they are turkeys. They enjoy chasing my rings when I am feeding & cleaning. One even tried to catch a fly today-not bad for a couple days old. More hatchlings on the way. These are White Midgets-one of the smallest breeds of turkeys.

Good Ole Joe

Joe has been with us since we hatched him as a baby 8 years ago. He is such a good boy and has won many ribbons for the farm as a show bird and photo wise. He protects his girls and keeps all the other roos in line.

Plague of Locust or Herd of Loose Goats

Everything seems to be getting loose around here lately. This is some of the damage done while we were away for a couple of hours. Goats had a blast and decided to take aim on all fake creatures in my flower beds along with my flowers. My poor Rosebud-they left like 2 leaves for me.

The Family Grows

Well what can I say-this lil guy has been loose for over a week in the groton area, seems someone has turned an entire flock loose. He showed up at a wild bird feeder during the storms last week. Sunday nite in the rain he was caught and monday he was ours. We named him Crocker Storm.
Crocker after the Hill/Farm and Storm for his past week loose. He's a lil budgie so he needs a strong name. He seems to like his cage and enjoys being near the window. He is not a big singer/talker as of yet and doesn't seem to understand what a toy is. According to his band he was born in RI last year. I called every breeder & pet store to try to find the breeder-no luck so far. He doesnt appear to be hand tame but thats fine. He needs a lil visit to the vet to make sure he isnt a host to any bad bird diseases and then he can join the others. So for now he's living on a chair in the kitchen watching the swallows play in the field. What's one more bird...

What did I wake up to?

As I am making the bed at 5am I hear the chirps of a guinea hen. Too early for that-Oh yea and we don't own a guinea hen! Appears someone else did and thought we were a great new home for it and left it off overnight in the front fenced area of our yard. Well I grab the bread and try to get a good look and make sure its not hurt-nope runs away shreaking in normal guinea hen style. It wants nothing from me other than to be freed from the fence line where it has been tormented by big trucks rushing down the hill since daylight. Well up and over the fence it goes and heads straight for the road and starts walking up the street. I am hopeful it will find another home-with guineas, lol. If it comes back here I guess we can add it to the flock-maybe-we had guineas before and they are awesome for ticks. I feel really bad that someone would just dump it off. It must be really scared. My guess a male-once they mature they usually fight with another male and they roost fairly early at night so its not like he wondered around in the dark all night-someone put him there. I hope I don't find him in the road later.....never a dull moment on the farm.

Peonies so pretty

When they bloom they smell so good. Some fell from the rain so I will have to cut them and bring them inside-oh darn.

Love shots like this!

After last nights storms Mother Nature rolled another one in this morning but the sun got a few peaks in before losing the battle.

Even the ducks are tired of the rain!

Will it stop? Not anytime soon they say. Found the Girls at the backdoor this am trying to get inside where its dry. Sorry Girls- no ducks in the house.

A 1940's pic of our Farm

Betty who used to live here-came for a visit and brought me some pictures of the old farm. Love them!!! Cant wait to copy them and hang them up all over!! This is my favorite one! Only the two big barns remain, the milk palor and silos are gone. This was also taken before the road was moved out away from the farm. The hill is covered in trees now.

Goaties on the Hill

Some of goats enjoying the tender green grass-funny they really never liked grass at the old place!
